Sunshine Coast Attractions
There are so many attractions and things to do on the Sunshine Coast.
Around 50 minutes’ drive will have you at Steve Irwin’s Australia Zoo. The kids will love it – visit the elephants, the snakes, crocodiles, turtles and so many more. Wander through the beautifully landscaped gardens and enjoy a fun filled day watching all the shows.
Big Kart Track
Pack the kids in the car and drive for 20 minutes south to Landsborough for a day out to remember. The largest commercial track in Australia with 1.2km of track, with lots of fun hairpins, bends and straight runs.
Just under 30 minutes’ drive north from Alexandra Headlands are the popular and much loved Eumundi Markets. Happening every Wednesday and Saturday, these markets are so popular you need to get there early for a parking spot. There is everything from arts and crafts to fashion and jewellery, local produce and lots of great food. And plenty of street entertainment.
Fraser Explorer Day Tours
Scoot up to Harvey Bay and explore the wonderful Heritage listed Fraser Island. Visit the beaches, the rainforests and the lakes. Swim in the crystal clear waters, take a leisurely lunch and go snorkelling or canoeing. It is all here for you.
Mooloolaba Reef and Game Charters
There are a number of great off shore reef and game fishing charters available to suit all types of anglers. You can catch Black Marlin, Blue Marlin, Yellow Fin Tuna, Snapper, Red Emperor, perch, Mackerel and even go crabbing.
Don’t worry about tackle as it is all supplied for you and you can take home what you catch – cleaned and gutted. Book a half or a full day and make your fishing dreams come true.
Mooloolah Valley Riding Centre
If you have always wanted to ride a horse – now is your chance. From novices to experienced riders, they have the horses and the treks for you. Take the family for a day out in the hinterlands, stop at a local pub for a country lunch or take a romantic ride just for two.
Morton Island Cruises
Moreton Island Cruise: Drive down to Brisbane and explore the spectacular beauty of Moreton Bay on an Island Cruise. Swim with the dolphins, spot the turtles and dugongs and then walk along the pristine beaches at Tangalooma. You can even snorkel on the wrecks at Tangalooma. Based at Mooloolaba they have everything the adventurous holiday maker desires. Swan Boat Hire
Explore the beautiful Maroochy River on your own boat. Pack up the kids, a picnic and your fishing gear and head up the river for a day of fun and fishing. Stop and start as you please – the day is yours to enjoy at your own pace.
There are lots of great picnic spots to while away a few hours in between bird watching, fishing and boating. Catch Bream, Tailor, Mullet or Mangrove Jacks and throw then on the Barby. Stop off at the Waterfront Hotel for a cool beer at lunchtime, then grab a kayak or paddle ski and have some afternoon fun.
The Valley Rattler
Just an easy 60 minutes’ drive north of Alexandra Headlands is the historic Valley Rattler at Gympie. Built during the Gold Rush and updated for safety recently, the Valley Rattler is a 40 km ride of curves, hills and bridges from Gympie to Imbil.
There are historic railway stations to investigate along the journey, markets with lots of local produce or just take in the amazing views and history. The kids will love this old steam train.
Just down the road from Mandolin Resort is this marine odyssey. The kids will love it here – swim with the sharks or the seals, be a seal trainer for a day, check out he touch pool and the seahorse sanctuary. There are even turtles and otters. And so many beautiful fish in the aquariums. Don’t let the kids miss out!
From June to November, the Sunshine Coast is the best place to go Whale Watching. Join a day trip to Harvey Bay or book a boat from Mooloolaba - the choice is yours. The Harvey Bay trip includes pick up at Mandolin Resort, morning tea, lunch on the Boardwalk overlooking Fraser Island, afternoon tea and a platter of fruit on board.
